Crucifixion

The icon of the Crucifixion depicts Christ on the Cross as the offering of divine love for humanity. Jesus is shown calm and dignified, emphasizing His voluntary sacrifice and victory over death. At the foot of the Cross often stand the Virgin Mary and Saint John, representing sorrow, faith, and hope. The icon invites contemplation of Christ’s suffering, obedience, and redemptive love.

Egg tempera on linden wood with gilding, 50 × 70 cm. Executed according to the Byzantine tradition with an Italic stylistic interpretation, the work combines sacred gold, symbolic light, and refined tempera technique to create an image meant for contemplation and devotion.
